Triumph India has released a teaser image on its social media pages stating that it will be launching a new motorcycle soon. The new bike in question is the 2017 Triumph Street Triple RS, the top-spec model in the Street Triple family which will be launched on October 16. This is the first time that the RS variant will be launched in our two-wheeler market. We had ridden the new Street Triple RS earlier this year and were very impressed by the new streetbike from the British brand (2017 Triumph Street Triple RS: First Ride Review). The Triumph Street Triple RS is expected to be priced around Rs 10 to 11 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from cosmetic and mechanical updates, the 2017 Street Triple also gets the benefit of electronic goodies.

The new motorcycle does look similar to its predecessor, but look closely and you will find that the headlight is much larger than the older bike. The RS version also gets LED DRLs, a different fuel tank, and a much more compact exhaust muffler. Another noticeable addition is the TFT all-digital instrument cluster that swivels, making it the first motorcycle to do so. Riders of varying statures can change the angle of the screen so that the display is clearly visible to them. There are three themes for the display, with an auto-contrast function that adjusts the display brightness depending on ambient light. Switchgear is also completely redesigned, with 5-way joystick control. Also ReadTriumph Street Triple S vs Kawasaki Z900: Comparison Review

The biggest talking point of the new motorcycle is its new heart. The bike is powered by a new, larger 765cc three-cylinder engine which is based on the Daytona 675R's motor. The new motor delivers 123PS at 11,700rpm and 77Nm at 10,800rpm, making the RS version the most powerful Street triple ever manufactured. The base Street Triple S’s motor delivers 113PS and 73Nm of peak torque. The engine comes fitted to a 6-speed gearbox while a quickshifter is standard on the RS variant. The chassis remains identical to the old bike, but the new Street Triple S does feature a new gullwing swingarm for torsional rigidity. The rake angle has been decreased to 23.9 degrees as opposed to the 24.8 degrees on the Street Triple S (24.1 degrees on the older bike), which endows the RS variant with sharper handling dynamics. Being the RS variant it features fully adjustable USD Showa BPF (big piston fork) up front and Ohlins STX40 monoshock unit at the rear, and weighs 166kg (2kg lighter than the older bike). Seat height stands at 825mm, which is a jump of 25mm in comparison to its predecessor. The Triumph Street Triple RS also gets Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres which offer much better grip than the standard tyres. Brembo M50 4-piston radial monobloc calipers handle braking responsibilities. Also Read Interview with Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India

In terms of electronics, the Triumph Street Triple RS features 5 ride modes - rain, sport, race, rider and track. It has four level traction control settings – road, rain, track and off. The ABS also gets three modes – road, track and off. The rider can also customise each ride mode along with his preferred traction control settings and ABS. The new Triumph Street Triple RS is expected to be launched by the third week of October and will compete against the Ducati Monster 821, Yamaha MT-09 and the MV Agusta Brutale 800
