-
From track to road
- The Apache RTR 160 2V was one of the first modern, sporty 160cc bikes in India
- TVS has derived a lot of the RTR 160's technology from their racing programme
- Over the years, TVS has updated it with many new features
- The design too has changed, especially the headlight cowl, but the rest of the bike's styling hasn't changed all that much
- It remains one of the most affordable sporty 160cc bikes in the Indian market
-
Not all-new
- The classic, muscular styling of the RTR 160 2V makes it instantly recognizable on the road
- The fuel tank extensions with the eyebrow-shaped DRLs and the LED headlight makes the bike look quite aggressive
- The design has only had subtle changes and is mostly unchanged; could feel outdated for some potential customers
-
Quick, yet efficient
- The motor offers good performance at higher revs, making it great fun to ride fast
- The ability to lower the power and torque output with the ride modes lets one be in control of the bike's performance
- Acceleration is quite quick till about 60kmph post which it slows down a bit
- During our real world tests, the bike delivered mileage outputs of 45.06kmpl in the city and 46.99kmpl on the highway
- The sweet spot for the bike is between 80-90kmph; vibrations can be felt when pushed hard beyond that
- Peaky motor which means you’ll end up making constant gear changes when moving through traffic
-
Race-derived
- The short 1300mm wheelbase makes the bike very nimble and agile; moving in and out of traffic feels effortless
- The agile handling characteristics make the RTR 160 2V a delight around corners
- The front-end a bit unsteady when making quick direction changes at high speeds
- Brakes offer good initial bite but the feedback from the lever is very little
-
Surprisingly plush
- The telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers suspension setup absorbs and potholes very well
- Ride quality is plush even on bad roads
-
Packed to the hilt
- Gets an LCD instrument console that also shows a clock, average speed, gear position indicator and lap timer readouts
- Top-end variant gets Bluetooth connectivity for call and SMS alerts and turn-by-turn navigation
- The features list is quite extensive for a 160cc bike
- Some of the features like the lap timer are more gimmicky than practical
-
Is the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V worth it?
- The TVS Apache RTR 160 2V offers a good package of sporty performance, engaging and nimble handling characteristics and a strong features list. The only negatives are that the design has been around for a long time now and the bike's pricing is a bit too similar to that of the Apache RTR 160 4V which is a more powerful and modern bike.
