Expert's Opinion on CB300F
Overview
A sporty 300cc commuter
- The Honda CB300F is a sporty commuter from the Japanese manufacturer which shares its design language with the Hornet 2.0.
- It comes with a tractable motor and aggressive design language but does not make much power on paper
- It is also priced quite high for the performance it offers
Design
A familiar silhouette
- It gets a sporty silhouette with sharp cuts and creases which looks very appealing, especially to the younger audience
- Has distinctive design elements such as vents in between the tank and its extensions
- Looks compact enough to be misjudged as a 150cc bike
- Lacks the big-bike appeal and the design may not be to everyone’s taste
Performance & Mileage
Tractable and relaxed
- The 300cc engine is extremely tractable and super refined. You can slot the bike in 5th or 6th gear and ride around town effortlessly
- The clutch is also very light, and one can slot the bike in 6th gear at 40kmph and roll on the throttle till 110kmph without any stress
- The engine lacks the zestiness and punch which one expects from a modern-day 300cc motorcycle
- You will feel the vibrations creeping across the rev range which will hamper the riding experience
Handling
Untapped potential
- The wide 150-section rear tyre keep it stable when riding at high speeds
- Both, front and rear brake pads could do with more bite and feedback as it robs you of confidence while braking hard
Ride Quality
A composed experience
- The inverted fork and the monoshock does a great job of absorbing bumps and potholes effortlessly and keep the rider and pillion comfortable
- The ABS calibration is quite good and intervenes smoothly during emergency braking conditions
Comfort & Storage
Far from sporty
- The riding posture is quite comfortable and is like a commuter motorcycle
- It has an accessible seat height of 789mm is a great boon for riders of all heights
- At 153kg, it is very light for a 300cc bike and can be easily moved around in the parking lot
- It comes with a well-padded and spacious seats for both the rider and pillion
Features
An adequate list
- Gets a digital display with 5 levels of brightness adjustability, Bluetooth connectivity and even traction control
- The display’s layout is quite easy to read in a quick glance while riding the motorcycle
- Also comes with a USB-C charging port which allows to charge devices on the go
- The placement of the USB-C charging port is quite awkward as it located beneath the console and behind the front cowl
Verdict
Should you buy the Honda CB300F?
- The Honda CB300F is a good bike for someone who wants to upgrade to a bigger 300cc bike from a 150-200cc commuter motorcycle but wants a relaxed and comfortable riding experience in the city and on the highways as well
- It lacks the performance which one would expect from a 300cc motorcycle and does not give the rider a big-bike feel
Key Things to Know about CB300F
Upside
- Super tractable motor; Nifty features like all-LED lighting and USB-C charging
Downside
- Motor lacks excitement; Styling is fairly derivative and uninspiring; Bluetooth system is gimmicky; Braking isn’t assuring; Too pricey
Expert's Conclusion
Honda’s CB300F fails to make any sort of impact. It is pricey, looks like a small bike and doesn’t have enough grunt to excite you. Plus, the braking performance is far from desirable. Ultimately, it turns out to be a very underwhelming bike.
