TVS Jupiter 125 Latest Updates

The TVS Jupiter 125 is the second 125cc scooter from the Hosur-based manufacturer following the TVS NTorq 125. The NTorq was meant to be a performance-oriented scooter for the youth while the TVS Jupiter 125 aims to cater to a wider and more diverse audience. Here’s how the Jupiter 125 compares, in terms of features, to the family-oriented electric scooter, the TVS iQube.

TVS Jupiter 125 Key Highlights

Price: The TVS Jupiter 125 is offered in three distinct variants: the Drum-Alloy variant which is priced at Rs 86,405, the Disc Brake variant comes at Rs 90,655 and the top-end SmartXonnect variant sells at Rs 96,855. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi. In terms of colours, the Drum-Alloy variant comes in 3 shades: Indiblue, Titanium Grey and Pristine White. The Disc Brake variant is offered in 4 colours: Dawn Orange, Indiblue, Titanium Grey and White. The SmartXonnect variant is offered in 2 colours: Elegant Red and Matte Copper Bronze.

Design: The TVS Jupiter 125 has a similar design as that of its smaller sibling but looks a bit beefier overall. The scooter features LED DRLs and chrome accents that makes it stand out when compared to the 110cc Jupiter. Coming to the rear, the tail light is a LED unit and the grabrail comes with the body-colour of the scooter and exudes a premium aura.

Features: The Jupiter 125 comes with a wide range of features. It includes a LED headlight, tail lamp, and DRLs while the indicators are bulb-type. The scooter comes with a semi-digital instrument console on the Drum-alloy and Disc variants which displays essential data such as speed, fuel level, distance-to-empty, and an Eco/Power indicator. The SmartXonnect variant comes with a negatively-lit LCD screen on the right and a TFT display on the left. The TFT display shows call and SMS alerts, turn-by-turn navigation and other TVS SmartXonnect related features. The Jupiter 125 has a front fuel-filler cap, a highest-in-segment 33-litre under-seat storage, a two-litre front cubby space with USB charging, and a multi-function key. The scooter also has a silent starter (iTouchStart) and an idle-stop-start system.

Engine: The TVS Jupiter 125 is powered by a 124.8cc fuel-injected two-valve engine which produces 8.1PS and 10.5Nm. In our real-world mileage tests the scooter was able to return 57.27kmpl in the city and 52.91kmpl on the highway.

Suspension, Brakes & Other Details: The TVS Jupiter 125 is built on a tubular frame and is suspended by a telescopic fork and a three-step preload-adjustable gas-charged monoshock. The fuel tank is placed beneath the floorboard, which makes a lot more room for the underseat storage, which can now hold two helmets. The scooter rolls on 12-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 90-section tubeless tyres. Baking duties are taken care of by a 220mm front and 130mm Disc/Drum at the rear depending on the variant. The scooter has a kerb weight of 108kg.

Rivals: The TVS Jupiter 125 rivals the Honda Activa 125, Hero Destini 125, Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid and the best-selling 125cc scooter, the Suzuki Access 125. If you are looking for a sportier scooter then the TVS NTorq 125 and the Yamaha RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid will be a good choice.

TVS Jupiter 125 Review

The TVS Jupiter 125 is the Hosur-based manufacturer’s second offering in the 125cc scooter segment. It aims to appeal to a wide and diverse range of consumers. Here’s how it performs in the real world.

Design

TVS Jupiter 125 Review Design

While the design language of the TVS Jupiter 125 is similar to the TVS Jupiter 110, the 125cc scooter looks relatively beefier. It also comes with a few changes that make it stand out such as the LED DRLs and chrome accents. The scooter overall looks very good and subtle details like the body-coloured pillion grabrail gives a premium feeling.

Engine, Performance & Mileage

TVS Jupiter 125 Review Riding Posture

The TVS Jupiter 125 is able to provide a comfortable experience on various road surfaces. The suspension setup is able to absorb most bumps, potholes and sharp edges without much trouble and offers a composed riding experience. Even with a pillion rider on board, the scooter remains stable and the suspension quickly regains composure after going over large bumps. The 12-inch wheels at both ends ensure the scooter is stable, and this along with the good low-mid-range grunt means you could commute with total ease. The overall braking performance is good and predictable, but the feel and progression could’ve been better.

Handling & Ride Quality

TVS Jupiter 125 Review handling

The Jupiter 125 provides a comfortable ride on various road surfaces. It absorbs bumps, ripples, and sharp edges with ease, offering a composed ride. Even with a pillion rider, it remains stable, and the suspension quickly regains composure after encountering larger bumps.

Comfort

When it comes to ergonomics, the TVS Jupiter 125 is very comfortable and almost feels like your favourite comfy chair on two wheels. The large seat is well padded and even two big riders can ride comfortably. The seat height is 765mm, which is quite manageable but shorter riders might have to make some adjustments to their sitting position to gain a secure footing. But overall, the scooter is able to provide a very comfortable riding experience.

Features

TVS Jupiter 125 Review Console

The TVS Jupiter 125’s main highlight is the impressive underseat storage compartment which boasts 33 liters of storage. It is large enough for a month’s worth of groceries. Even if you run out of space, there’s always the two luggage hooks on the apron that can accommodate extra bags. The floorboard is also very spacious and TVS claims that even a gas cylinder can be placed on the floor, although we would not recommend you do so, for safety reasons.

The fueling has been made simple by the filler cap being conveniently located on the apron and can be opened using the ignition key slot. Riders can easily fill petrol without having to get off the scooter.

Coming to the instrument console, On the Drum-Alloy and Disc variants the scooter features a semi-digital instrument console that displays essential data such as speed, fuel level, distance-to-empty, and an Eco/Power indicator. The SmartXonnect variant comes with a fully digital unit, with a negatively lit LCD screen on the right which displays speed, fuel level and other readouts along with a TFT screen on the left which displays TVS SmartXonnect related functionalities such as Call/SMS alerts and turn-by-turn navigation. So when it comes to features, the TVS Jupiter 125 does not disappoint.

Should You Buy the TVS Jupiter 125?

TVS Jupiter 125 Review Performance

The TVS Jupiter 125 is an excellent family-oriented scooter and scores high in comfort and convenience. The performance and fuel efficiency are good but it comes with a somewhat premium price. That’s fairly easy to overlook considering it offers fantastic practicality and is packed with all the useful features.
