Honda Activa 6G Expert Review
Overview
India’s favourite scooter, the Honda Activa 6G remains to be the highest-selling scooter because of its simplicity and practicality. For the past two decades, the Activa has proven to be a reliable scooter for everyone, ranging from college goers to senior citizens. It has received several updates over the years, and we see if the latest-generation version is relevant in today’s market.
Design
The Activa 6G has received minimalistic design updates to ensure it remains as familiar as ever. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing as its target audience loves its familiar looks. The new design is inspired by the Activa 125, specially the broader rear-end design with an external fuel cap. The scooter continues to have metal bodywork that the target audience loves for perceived durability. Overall, the fit-and-finish levels are good.
Engine, Mileage and Performance
The Activa 6G gets a 109.51cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that delivers 7.79PS and 8.90Nm, sufficient for a scooter of this segment. The performance may not be exciting, but it handles everyday commutes and even short highway rides smoothly. It comes with a 5.3-litre fuel tank and provides a real world tested mileage of 59.9kmpl in the city and 55.93kmpl on the highway.
Handling and Ride Quality
The Honda Activa now gets a telescopic fork and a larger 12-inch wheel at the front. As a result, it gets increased ground clearance and ensures better ride quality. These improvements have also led to better stability and handling, it rides over small bumps easily but you have to avoid bigger ones. You experience increased confidence while taking corners.
Comfort
The Activa being an everyday scooter is very comfortable for the rider as well as the passenger, thanks to the upgraded fork and bigger front wheel. The riding posture is relaxed, and the handlebar is easy to reach as well. The big, comfy seat makes sitting pleasant, and the easy step up to the back seat makes getting on and off the scooter simple.
Features
The new Activa 6G comes with various convenient features that makes life easier. It now comes with an ACG motor for easy, quiet starts, a built-in pass switch, and a multi-function key slot that lets you open the seat and access the external fuel filler cap.
The scooter gets an analogue instrument console instead of a digital one. This is surprising because even the Activa 5G had a semi-digital console. That said, the new H-Smart variant does come with a semi-digital cluster. However, none of the variants get smartphone connectivity nor turn-by-turn navigation - a big miss as it would’ve enhanced everyday usability considerably.
The Activa 6G comes with basic steel wheels. If you go for the H-Smart version, you get fancier alloy wheels.
Should you buy the Honda Activa 6G?
Despite the not-so-easily noticeable changes to the design, the Activa still manages to look relevant, and more importantly, be a favourite among Indian buyers. It offers an easy-going, refined engine, great mileage, and is pretty comfortable as well. While it could’ve had better features, the lack of it is not necessarily a deal-breaker.
The Activa is a great choice if you want a scooter that's tough, dependable, and comfortable, the Activa 6G has it all. But if you're looking for something with extra features and a more modern touch, you might want to check out the TVS Jupiter.
