The Bajaj Pulsar 150 is the cheapest 150cc bike in India. The Pulsar 150 is also Bajaj’s most popular bike in India. While it might have started life as one of the best performance bikes in the country, now with other bikes becoming more powerful, it has become more of a 150cc commuter bike.
How much does the Pulsar 150 cost?
Prices for the Pulsar start at Rs 1,13,696 and go up to Rs 1,15,418 (both prices ex-showroom Delhi), depending on the variant selected.
How many variants does the Pulsar 150 have?
The Pulsar 150 comes in two variants - Single Disc and Twin Disc. The Single Disc variant gets a 260mm disc brake at the front, with a 130mm drum at the back, and costs Rs 1,13,696. The Twin Disc variant gets a 280mm front disc brake, with a 230mm rear disc, and costs Rs 1,15,418. Both variants get single-channel ABS as standard for enhanced safety when braking hard on slippery surfaces. The Single Disc variant also gets a single-piece seat, slightly higher clip-on handlebars and a 31mm conventional telescopic fork. The Twin Disc variant is slightly sportier with a split seat setup, lower set clip-on handlebars, a fatter 37mm conventional telescopic fork and wider tyres. The Twin Disc variant also does not come with a kick starter.
Which is the best variant of the Pulsar 150 to buy?
We would always recommend the Twin Disc variant of the Pulsar 150 because of the improved braking the rear disc provides over the rear dum. However the riding position of the Twin Disc variant is slightly sportier. If you want a comfortable motorcycle purely for commuting in the city, the Single Disc variant might work better for you.
What are the colour options available for the Pulsar 150?
The Pulsar 150 is available in three colour options - Blue, Red and Silver. It’s important to know that the Pulsar 150 is primarily black in colour with only accent stickers in the respective colour options.
Is the Pulsar 150 a sports bike?
The Pulsar 150 originally began life as a sports bike as it offered better performance than any of its competitors. Now though, the market has moved ahead, and the Pulsar 150’s 149.50cc single-cylinder engine makes 14PS @ 8500 rpm and 13.25Nm @ 6500 rpm, making it slightly more powerful than something like the Yamaha FZ-FI. The Pulsar 150 Twin Disc variant does offer a slightly sporty riding posture and the bike does handle well. So while we won’t call it an out-and-out sports bike, you can think of the Pulsar 150 as a sporty commuter.
What is the mileage of the Pulsar 150?
The ARAI claimed mileage of the Pulsar 150 is 47.5kmpl, which is not too bad for a 150cc motorcycle, but certainly not the best in class.
Is the Pulsar 150 a good bike for city use?
The Pulsar 150 is slightly on the heavier side with the Twin Disc variant having a kerb weight of 150kg, while the Single Disc variant weighs 2kg lighter. That said, the bike still isn’t difficult to manage, whether you’re riding it, parking it, or moving it around with your feet. Still, we think for riding in the city, the Single Disc variant’s taller handlebar and single-piece seat will end up being more comfortable than the Twin Disc variant. Overall, we think the Pulsar makes for a good city bike.
Is the Pulsar 150 a good bike for highway touring?
The Pulsar 150’s engine isn’t really smooth at higher speeds. You’ll be decently comfortable at around 80-90kmph. While the bike can go faster than that, the engine starts to feel strained and the vibrations increase quite a bit as well. So the Pulsar 150 is not really ideal for highway touring. If you do decide to take it for long highway rides though, the Pulsar 150’s large 15 litre fuel tank will easily give you a range of 650km before you have to refuel.
What features does the Pulsar 150 have?
The Pulsar 150 is pretty basic when it comes to modern features. You don’t get LED lighting at all, but it does get a fully digital LCD instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity. Apart from the speedometer, this console has a clock, an odometer, two tripmeters, a gear position indicator and a digital tachometer. The connected features include missed call and message alerts, and let you accept or reject calls using a button on the left switchgear. Apart from this, you get single-channel ABS for improved safety while braking.
Should you buy the Pulsar 150?
The Pulsar 150 at one point used to be the epitome of performance bikes. But the overall design of the bike hasn’t changed in almost 15 years. Although it’s still a fan favourite, we think there are much better bikes available in the Indian market if you want performance. Even if you’re looking for a good 150cc commuter, you can get better options. The Pulsar 150 only makes sense in today’s day and age if you want a 150cc bike and are on a very tight budget.
Are there any alternatives to the Pulsar 150?
If you want a 150cc commuter, the Honda Unicorn is available at almost exactly the same price. It offers a smoother engine and that bulletproof Honda reliability. If you’re willing to spend a little more, the Yamaha FZ-FI is a great looking premium commuter that offers excellent mileage and great refinement.

Design
The Bajaj Pulsar 150 retains the well-proven design of its predecessor but incorporates subtle refinements.
