Bajaj Chetak Latest Updates
The cheapest variant, dubbed the Chetak 2901, has been launched for Rs 95,998 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru, including EMPS subsidy). Here are the differences between the Chetak’s three variants. The Bajaj Chetak is one of the best-selling electric scooters in May 2024, according to SIAM (Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers) sales data.
The Chetak electric scooter, the bikemaker’s first modern electric scooter, was a big step forward for Bajaj, as it was best known for its motorcycles. It's a modern version of the classic (petrol-powered) Chetak scooter, which was a game-changer in the Indian two-wheeler space. Bajaj is planning to launch a new Chetak electric scooter in 2025. It will be based on an all-new platform. CEO Rajiv Bajaj has confirmed that a new Chetak will be launched every year.
Bajaj Chetak Key Highlights
Price: The Chetak stands out because it's made entirely of metal, unlike many other electric scooters. It's got a classic look inspired by the OG petrol-powered Chetak. It's also got some cool features like a retractable hook under the seat for your bag and sleek rear view mirrors. The quality of the buttons and switches is really good, and little details like the brushed metal around the LED headlight make it look classy.

Features: The Premium version has a new 5-inch screen that's easy to read. It also comes with cool stuff like sequential indicators, locks for the handles and steering, a switch to open the seat, and a light inside the underseat storage. Both the Urbane and Premium versions now come with the TECPAC package includes extra features like navigation, music control, and call/notification alerts.
Motor: The Chetak has a 4kW electric motor with the Eco mode as standard across all variants. The TecPac add-on gives each variant a Sports mode and a reverse mode. It's not super fast, with a claimed top speed of 73kmph on the Urbane and Premium, and 63kmph on the 2901. The Premium has a claimed range of 126km, Urbane has 113km and the base variant has 123km. If you get the Premium version, you also get a faster charger that can give you 15.6km of range in just 30 minutes.
Suspension, Brakes & Other Details: The Chetak gets a trailing link front suspension, a monoshock on the rear, and 12-inch alloy wheels shod with MRF Zapper tyres. It gets a disc brake up front and a drum brake at the rear on the Premium variant, while the other two get only drum brakes on both wheels.
Rivals: The Chetak competes with other electric scooters like the Ampere Nexus, Ola S1 Air, Ather Rizta, Ather 450S and TVS iQube Electric.
Range: In our test, the Premium version was able to go 113.9km on a single charge. However, claimed range on the Urbane is 113km and on the 2901 is 123km.
Charging Time: The Premium version can be fully charged in 4 hours 30 minutes, the Urbane in 4 hours 50 minutes, and the 2901 in 6 hours.

Chetak Expert's Conclusion
Bajaj has ushered in a new era of electric mobility with the Chetak electric. Its timeless appeal is only matched by its elegant style and premium fit and finish levels. The Chetak might not be as futuristic or boast of great performance like the Ather 450X, but it does offer an easy urban riding experience. And with the update, it is even more feature-packed and a fun-to-ride commuter.
