The new side-mounted exhaust will help the bike achieve a sweeter exhaust note while complying to stricter emission norms

KTM 200 Duke With Side-Mounted Exhaust Showcased In Indonesia

KTM has showcased the 2018 version of the 200 Duke at the Indonesia International Motor Show. Just one thing has changed on the new model of the 200 Duke, but it is a significant one nonetheless: a side-mounted exhaust. This is the same exhaust unit as seen on its elder siblings, the 250 Duke and the 390 Duke.

As per the brochure, the side-mounted exhaust unit appears to house the catalytic converter under its belly. The Austrian company states that it not only helps in producing a distinctive exhaust note and reducing emissions but also help in achieving improved torque delivery. However, it will be offered as an optional accessory rather than being a standard fitment. We expect the Austrian brand to offer the same in India as well in the coming months.

The 2018 KTM 200 Duke showcased in Indonesia continues to sport the same design language and power and torque figures as the older model that’s sold in India. However, the latter is almost 4kg heavier than the former. Powering the KTM 200 Duke is a 199.5cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which produces 25.8PS of power and 19Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The 200 Duke uses a steel trellis frame suspended upon WP 43mm USD forks at the front and a WP monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends. While KTM doesn't offer ABS here, it is available on the Indonesian-spec bike. However, with the new safety regulations kicking in, that might change soon.
