Yamaha FZ 25 Bike Latest Updates

After the success of the 150cc Yamaha FZ series, the Japanese bikemaker introduced the Yamaha FZ25 in 2017. It’s a sporty streetfighter with a 250cc air-oil-cooled engine aimed to compete with 250cc bikes including the Suzuki Gixxer 250, Bajaj Pulsar N250, as well as the Apache RTR 200 4V.

Yamaha FZ 25 Engine

Yamaha FZ25 is powered by a single-cylinder, air-oil-cooled, 249cc, fuel-injected engine which produces 20.8PS and 20.1Nm and comes paired with a five-speed transmission. It features a diamond frame which is suspended by a telescopic front-fork and seven-step preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by a 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc, with standard dual-channel ABS. The bike rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in 100-section (front) and 140-section (rear) tubeless tyres. It comes with a 14-litre fuel tank and weighs 153kg (kerb). It gets a fairly accessible 795mm tall seat along with 160mm of ground clearance.

Yamaha FZ 25 Variants

The FZ25 comes as a single variant with two paint schemes. Apart from shades, they have similar mechanicals and features.

Yamaha FZ 25 Design

Yamaha has retained the bike’s brawny looks with a muscular fuel tank with tank extensions, split seat and beefy rear tyre. The headlight cluster has been redesigned which makes it look quite robotic, just like the Honda X-Blade. Adding to its sporty appeal are the revised engine cowl and a stubby exhaust with revised muffler guards in the latest version.

Key Features of Yamaha FZ 25

The Yamaha FZ25 gets a bi-functional LED projector headlight with boomerang-shaped LED DRLs and a LED tail lamp unit with halogen indicators. It sports a negative LCD display which shows real time mileage apart from the regular trove of information. Another notable feature is the side-stand engine cut-off functionality. The more premium FZS 25 comes with knuckle guards, a bigger flyscreen, golden alloy wheels, and snazzier colour schemes.

Yamaha FZ 25 Competitors

The FZ 25 goes up against the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Bajaj Dominar 250. In a similar price range, you can also consider purchasing the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Yamaha R15 V3.0 and KTM RC 125.

  • Expert's Conclusion

The Yamaha FZ25 is excellent when it comes to being an everyday bike. It’s refined and has great bottom-end grunt. If you’re willing to overlook the not-so-exciting performance and lack of geeky features, the FZ25 is a great bike for daily commutes and occasional weekend rides.

  • Overall Good Bike

I own a 2017 model Yamaha FZ 25. Since the beginning, I've managed to achieve a maximum mileage of 23-25 kmpl in city conditions and 28-30 kmpl on the highway. However, I must point out that the bike's front light is quite inadequate, making nighttime riding extremely dangerous due to poor visibility. On a positive note, the engine performance is excellent.

Must Read Questions & Answers Before Buying FZ 25

Q. Which is better, Yamaha FZ 25 or TVS Ronin or Jawa 42?
  • Yamaha FZ 25 is powered by a 249 cc engine. This FZ 25 engine generates a power of 20.8 PS @ 8000 rpm and a torque of 20.1 Nm @ 6000 rpm. The new motorcycle gets an LED headlamp and tail lamp. The bike’s negative LCD display shows the real-time mileage apart from the regular trove of information. Another new feature in the BS6 model is the side-stand engine cutoff function. The FZ25 BS6’s premium variant, the FZS 25, gets knuckle guards, a longer windscreen, alloy wheels in the gold finish, and more premium color options. On the other hand, the Ronin is surely a brave new step for TVS. But despite the premium features and hardware, it does not entirely qualify as a jack-of-all-trades. It’s a well-rounded urban motorcycle dispatching city commutes with ease, but on the open road, it lacks oomph. Whereas, Jawa 42 is powered by a 293 cc engine. This 42 engine generates a power of 27. 33 PS and a torque of 27.02 Nm. Jawa has kept a minimal approach. It has equipped the 42 with an analogue speedometer, fuel gauge, and a small digital patch for the odometer readings while skipping the gear indicator and tachometer. Even the headlight and indicators use bulbs to keep the retro appeal flowing. Moreover, we would suggest you to take a test ride before making the final decision. Q. Which is better between Yamaha FZ 25 and Yamaha MT 15 Version 2.0?
On the other hand, The updates as expected have made the new MT-15 a better bike. It looks more premium, handles better and the addition of a few new features is welcome. But the dullness of the engine is disappointing and the lack of dual-channel ABS is just beyond any reasoning with this performance on tap. Moreover, we would suggest you to take a test ride before making the final decision. Follow the link and select your desired city for dealership details.
Q. What is the waiting period of this bike?

  • I have booked the bike on the 26th March 2023 in Pune. Still there is no update on the bike from the Dealer Shelar automotive. It's July now it's definitely more than 3-4 months of waiting. So waiting maybe minimum 6months even more.
  • Minimum 2 months. The dealer in Nashik says company will begin production only after January.
