Bajaj To Bring Its First Electric Scooter On October 16

The electric scooter will be part of its new electric sub-brand called Urbanite

[Update: Bajaj’s All-new Chetak Is Here In Electric Form!]

  • The e-scooter was spotted testing on the streets of Pune.
  • It sports a retro design, kind of similar to larger Vespas available abroad.
  • Bajaj might try to revive the Chetak moniker with the new e-scooter.

Bajaj Auto is all geared up to showcase its first electric offering, which might just be called the e-Chetak, on October 16. The new e-scooter, which will be a part of Bajaj’s new Urbanite sub-brand, will take on the Ather 450. We expect it to go on sale by early 2020, if not earlier.

Spy images of the upcoming e-scooter suggest that it will sport a neo-retro design reminiscent of large capacity Vespas that are found abroad. Much like the original Chetak, this e-scooter too will have a single-sided front fork.

Aside from this, the e-scooter will get premium features such as LED lighting all around, Bluetooth connectivity and several AI (artificial intelligence) features. When we had seen the e-scooter roaming on the streets of Pune, it was being tested alongside the Ather 450 as it is going to be the e-Chetak’s main rival.

Expect the new e-scooter to be priced a smidge over Rs 1 lakh (on-road) as Bajaj will look to undercut Ather’s popular e-scooter by a significant margin. More details to follow soon.
