Expert's Opinion on Pulsar NS160
Overview

- The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 now comes with an LED headlight and looks quite sporty thanks to the new paint schemes it comes with
- The motorcycle is heavier than its rivals but delivers good amounts of performance which still makes it an option to consider in the sporty 160cc commuter segment
Design

- The Pulsar NS160 retains a familiar design language as the Pulsar NS200, the bike on which it is based upon
- It now comes with a new LED headlight and LED indicators
- The overall design looks very sporty and aggressive which makes it very appealing especially to the younger audience
- Despite having a new LED headlight, the overall design remains unchanged for over a decade which makes it look a bit outdated
Performance & Mileage

- The Pulsar NS160’s engine loves to be revved and packs a strong mid-range punch
- The clutch is very light and the gearbox is pretty smooth
- Performance is adequate enough for both city and highways
- Returned a tested mileage of 40.6kmpl in the city and 48kmpl on highway
- Vibrations start to creep in on the footpegs and on the tank as the speed goes up which hampers the riding experience
Handling

- The bike loves to be tipped into corners
- The front-end is quite light and turns very easily with minimal inputs
- Tyres offers good levels of grip which inspires confidence
- The light front end may feel overwhelming at first for beginners as they will have to dial down their inputs by a notch
- Weighs more than its rivals
Ride Quality

- The bike is planted at highway speeds and absorbs undulations without feeling unsettled
- Sharp bumps and potholes are unnerving
Comfort & Storage

- The seat is well-padded which is pretty comfortable for both short and long-distance rides
- Though it has a sporty riding posture, the bike is comfortable for daily commutes as well as spirited riding
- The footpegs are set up on the higher side which will feel cramped for a taller rider
- The bike feels heavy to move around in the parking lot or tight spaces
Features

- Gets a digital instrument cluster that supports smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth
- The display shows a lot of information which is quite useful while riding a motorcycle
- Addition of backlit switches is a nice touch
- Could have done with a TFT display which is offered in bikes a segment lower
Verdict

- The Pulsar NS160 comes at a price tag that is way higher than its rivals
- It has a sporty riding experience and handles pretty well compared to its rivals
- Though it is on the heavier side compared to its rivals
- Costs higher than the Pulsar N160 which provides a similar riding but is more affordable
Key Things to Know about Pulsar NS160
- It packs a pretty powerful engine
- Shares the capable perimeter frame with larger Pulsars
- Stopping power is pretty good
- Engine refinement could have been better
- It isn’t feature-rich like its segment rivals
- It is the heaviest 160cc motorcycle
While the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 BS6 might not have many tangible features to justify the price hike due to BS6 norms, it more than makes up for it with raw performance. In fact, it is the most powerful motorcycle in its segment, making it ideal for enthusiasts who prioritise performance over anything else.
