The Street Triple R Is On The Verge Of Launching!

It will replace the Street Triple S as the most affordable variant in the India lineup

[Update: 2020 Triumph Street Triple R Launched In India, head here to check it out.]

We received the range-topping Street Triple RS in India a couple of months ago, and now Triumph is gearing up to launch its slightly milder sibling, the 2020 Street Triple R. Like the RS, it’s powered by a 765cc motor, while the S variant has now dropped down to a 660cc displacement figure with an A2-compliant option. The S will no longer be sold in India, meaning that the Triple R will take over as the most affordable Street Triple here, and also the most affordable triple-cylinder Triumph motorcycle to be sold in our country.

Don’t for a second think that this means it’s a bare-bones motorcycle, oh no. The Triple R comes packed with Brembo brakes, three power modes, traction control, a bi-directional quickshifter and fully adjustable Showa suspension. The 765cc inline-triple motor produces 118PS and 75Nm here, compared to 123PS and 79Nm in the RS, but we doubt this difference will be very apparent from the rider’s seat.

As far as price goes, we expect Triumph to slap a sticker of around Rs 9.50 lakh on the Triple R, which will make it a good Rs 1.5 lakh more affordable than the RS. It should also place the bike reasonably close to the twin-cylinder KTM 790 Duke, which is yet to receive its BS6 update and should sit around the Rs 9 lakh mark once it does.
