Triumph Street Triple 800 Teased Prior To January Launch

The next-generation Triumph Street Triple gets more power, features and might be offered in four different variants

Triumph Street Triple 80

After updating the Bonneville range last year, Triumph is focussing its attention on the new Street Triple. The British bikemaker has released a teaser video of the next-generation motorcycle that is likely to be called the Street Triple 800. From the teaser video we can make out that the styling of the new bike will be based on its elder sibling, the 2016 Speed Triple. Apart from the cosmetic update, the new Triumph Street Triple 800 will also feature a TFT screen and slipper clutch.

The biggest change though is the new powerplant which has seen a displacement hike to 765cc. The liquid-cooled, triple-cylinder motor will be Euro 4 emission norm compliant and be mated to a 6-speed transmission. The base Triumph Street Triple will have a power output of 110PS which is a hike of 5PS (the Indian spec model produces 80PS though). The base spec model will be equipped with electronic throttle bodies and traction control. The Triumph Street 800R will get additional 5PS along with adjustable Showa sourced suspension, three riding modes. The most interesting addition is the new Triumph Street Triple 800RT which is a sports-tourer offering.

This means that it would be equipped with a quarter fairing (optional) to offer protection from windblast at higher speeds. The Triumph Street Triple 800RT will have a power output of 125PS and will get accessories like tyre pressure sensors, luggage attachment points and an auxiliary power socket. The top-spec Triumph Street Triple 800RS gets Ohlins suspension at both ends and Brembo monobloc radial calipers, as well as an extra pair of riding modes. The new Triumph Street Triple 800 will compete against the soon to be launched Kawasaki Z900 in our two-wheeler space.
