If Triumph’s latest triple-cylinder roadster doesn’t quite get your motor running, here are some similarly priced alternatives
Triumph has finally given us a more affordable triple-cylinder option by launching the Street Triple R. It’s a whole Rs 2.5 lakh more affordable than the RS variant, at just Rs 8.84 lakh. But if this bike isn’t quite your cup of tea, then there are a couple of similarly priced alternatives you could go for.
Harley-Davidson Iron 883
The Triple sure packs in a lot of performance, but with our miserable roads, where are you even going to use it? A far more laid-back motorcycling experience is offered by Harley-Davidson and its Iron 883. It’s every bit as much of a head-turner as the Trumpet, with a shouty V-twin motor and its outlaw stance. The engine configuration also offers bags of torque at low rpm, rendering it a very usable motor, and the 883 is a great companion for weekend highway mile-munching. If this sounds like something you want, head over to your nearest H-D dealership and plop down Rs 9.38 lakh.
Triumph Bonneville T100
Though Harleys do appeal to some, many others find them to be somewhat brash and distasteful. But a peek around Triumph’s own stable will reveal a whole lineup of very tasteful, elegant modern classics, and there’s none more distinctive than the iconic Bonneville T100. It may look delightfully retro, but it’s powered by a modern, torquey and water-cooled 900cc parallel-twin that emanates a nice, deep burble thanks to the 270-degree crankshaft. All yours for just Rs 8.87 lakh, complete with a healthy dose of chrome and wire-spoke wheels.
