The Japanese brand has trademarked the name FZ-X
Yamaha has trademarked the name FZ-X and there are speculations that it could be for its first ADV offering for India. Reports of Yamaha working on an adventure tourer for India has been doing the rounds for many years. However, with competition entering the fray, the timing for Yamaha couldn’t have been more right. The Yamaha FZ-X is likely to be based on the Yamaha FZ25. Also Read - Upcoming Honda Two-Wheeler Launches in 2021
Curiously, Yamaha already has a 250cc off-roader based on the FZ 25’s motor called the Yamaha XTZ-250 Lander which is sold in a few South American markets. However, the Lander 250 is a hardcore dual-purpose bike with a dizzying 875mm seat height. In our opinion Yamaha will be developing a softer and more approachable ADV on the lines of the Suzuki V-Strom, with the focus being on touring and comfort. The other possibility we think is that the Yamaha FZ-X could be a new variant for the Yamaha FZ 25. The Japanese two-wheeler giant had recently launched the Yamaha FZ-S Fi Vintage Edition. This means the FZ-X name would have been trademarked for a similar purpose. Whether Yamaha launches a new 250cc ADV or introduces a new variant is something we will have to wait and watch.
