Here’s a closer look at Honda’s first BS6-compliant motorcycle in detailed images
Honda has launched its second BS6-compliant two-wheeler in a span of just two months. The 2020 Honda Shine SP, drops the Shine moniker and gets a new design, a truckload of features and a brand new engine. Here’s a look at the greener more efficient Honda SP 125 in detailed images.
The SP 125 is the first motorcycle from Honda’s lineup to employ a BS6-compliant motor.
Its 124cc, single-cylinder motor comes with fuel-injection and puts out 10.8PS of power and 10.9Nm of peak torque. That’s 0.57PS and 0.6Nm more than the outgoing Shine SP. According to the brand, the engine is 16 per cent more efficient than the previous-gen model. Its 5-speed transmission remains unchanged.
The SP 125 also comes equipped with a first-in-segment ACG starter to ensure a silent startup of the engine. It’s the same feature that’s seen on the Honda Activa 125 BS6. Interestingly, the ACG starter on the SP125 also doubles up as a kill switch.
The pass and headlight switch is now placed at the front of the left-hand-side switchgear for added convenience.
The fuel tank design is all new and the design language is a whole is a lot more aggressive than before.
The bike’s headlight is now an all-LED unit while the rear features a conventional halogen bulb.
The five-spoke alloy wheels have also been completely overhauled. We must add, the new design gels pretty well with the overall styling of the bike.
The Honda SP 125 punches well above its segment with its feature-packed full-digital instrument console. Readouts include real-time and average fuel efficiency, range, service reminder and gear position indicator.
The bike continues to employ a diamond type frame, a telescopic fork and twin rear shock absorbers.
The SP 125 comes furnished with 130mm drum brakes at either ends as standard. Alternatively, you could opt for the top-spec variant, which comes with a 240mm disc up front and a 130mm drum at the rear. It’s CBS setup aims at better braking while low rolling-resistance tyres ensure better efficiency.
Bookings for the SP 125 have commenced across all dealerships in India with deliveries set to begin next week. The SP 125 comes with a six-year warranty (3 years standard and 3 years optional extended warranty). The newest entrant from Honda competes against the Hero Glamour FI (Rs 69,950) and the Bajaj Discover 125 (Rs 58,752) (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
