The instrument cluster is a semi-digital unit which houses the speedometer, odometer, trip meter, fuel gauge, low-battery warning and tell-tale lights. Other notable features include an LED tail lamp and stylish looking alloy wheels.
Engine: The Bajaj Discover 125 draws power from a 124.5cc single-cylinder SOHC air-cooled long-stroke engine. It produces 11PS of power at 7500rpm and 11Nm of torque at 5500rpm. Bajaj has equipped the Discover 125 with a 5-speed transmission with a cellulose-based clutch which is claimed to facilitate easier gear shifts. Suspension components include telescopic front forks and twin gas-charged shock absorbers. The front offers 140mm of travel while the rear gets 120mm of travel, which Bajaj claims to be the highest in its segment. The motorcycle comes to a halt using 130mm drum brake up front or an optional 200mm disc at the back. At the rear, both the disc and drum variants feature 130mm drum. CBS is available for both the variants and Bajaj is currently offering models without CBS as well. However, they are on sale only until stocks last as the manufacturing of non-CBS/ ABS bikes is illegal under the new safety norms.
Rivals: Honda CB Shine SP: The Honda CB Shine SP is priced at Rs 64,416 (ex-showroom) for the drum brake with CBS variant. This is a whole Rs 6163 dearer than the Discover 125! For that added price, it offers a sportier styling and a more modern looking semi-digital instrument cluster. The instrument console also comes with a service-due indicator and clock. However, the engine makes slightly less power and torque than the Discover. Yamaha Saluto 125: Priced at Rs 59,480 (drum with CBS, ex-showroom Delhi), the Yamaha Saluto 125 is Rs 1227 dearer than the DIscover 125. Even though it is expensive, it makes 0.3PS and 0.9Nm less than the Discover. It also lacks a fifth gear, which would’ve improved the motorcycle’s highway performance.
