BS6 Baby Beemers Are Nearly Here!

BMW Motorrad has been keeping itself busy in 2020, first, by bringing in the F 900 middleweight twins to our shores and soon, the S 1000 XR as well. Now, a new video of the BS6 G 310 R and G 310 GS being tested on our roads has surfaced online. This leads us to believe that BMW Motorrad India will be shifting its focus to the entry-level space after the launch of the litre-class tourer.
This isn’t the first instance that these updated G 310 siblings have been spotted. The two bikes were seen roaming around in Europe earlier this year. The inclusion of an LED headlight was a given since it has almost become a norm these days. The previous halogen units weren’t the brightest units, so let’s hope the new LED lamps offer better visibility for night time riding.
We would have expected BMW to troubleshoot some of the refinement issues that plagued the BS4 motorcycles. Sadly, the clattering exhaust note doesn’t seem to suggest that much has been done to refine the aural experience. Hopefully, BMW has taken heed of the changes that its Indian partner TVS has made on the latter’s sportbike, the Apache RR 310, and implemented the same on the G 310s. The new RR 310 gets ride-by-wire, riding modes, new engine internals and better engine mounts. While the vibrations from the 312.2cc engine haven’t been totally filtered out, the harshness has been subdued, with even the ones present at the top end of the powerband not feeling as troublesome as before.
According to our dealer sources, the BS6 G 310 R and G 310 GS will be compromising a bit on its premium positioning. Expect a significant cutback in prices of both the bikes. The earlier Rs 2.99 lakh and Rs 3.49 lakh price tags were a bit too much for regular Indian enthusiasts. With bikes like the Honda CB300R, the KTM 390 Adventure and the BS6 Apache RR 310 being reasonably priced in India, BMW has to do something out of the box to sweeten the deal for the G 310s.
