Design

The Harley-Davidson X440 has a bold road presence, with a muscular fuel tank and clean design lines. It has a round LED headlight that adds a classic touch to the bike. However, the design of the rear-end of the motorcycle could have been better. The simple, straight exhaust pipe might not look very exciting, but Harley-Davidson explains that its design is key to producing the unique Harley sound, even though the bike has just one cylinder.

Engine, Performance & Mileage

The Harley-Davidson X440 is powered by a 440cc, single-cylinder engine producing 27.4PS and 38Nm and it comes mated with a 6-speed gearbox. Acceleration is quite quick, reaching 120-125kmph without much effort. Riding at 100-110kmph is a very smooth experience, with hardly any vibrations. However, if you push the engine beyond 5,000rpm, you'll start to notice vibrations at the footpegs and on the handlebar.

The engine works well even at low speeds as it has good low-end torque. You can ride at 50kmph in 5th or 6th gear easily. If you need to pass another vehicle, though, you might need to shift down one or two gears. The 6th gear is great for smooth rides on the highway at speeds around 120km/h over long distances.

Handling & Ride Quality

The Harley-Davidson X440 is quite nimble and easy to handle. Whether you're speeding through winding mountain roads or cruising on long, curvy highway stretches, the bike leans into turns smoothly and makes you feel confident because it manages to stay quite steady. Plus, the frame of the bike keeps it stable and controlled, even when you're speeding up quickly.

Comfort

Riders of all heights and sizes will find the X440 quite approachable as it has a seat height of 805mm. Its footpegs are mid-set, and it features a flat handlebar, which helps you sit in a comfortable position for long rides. However, we noticed the seat is somewhat soft, which could be a bit uncomfortable during long trips. The bike's suspension is good at soaking up bumps and holes in the road and with a ground clearance of 170mm, the bike can go through bad patches of road quite easily.

The Harley-Davidson X440 has a TFT instrument console that gives you readouts like DTE (Distance-to-empty), clock, real-time mileage indicator, gear indicator, battery health and more. The higher-end S model also lets you connect your phone via Bluetooth so you can get directions, control your music, and receive call and text notifications right on your console. Plus, it comes with a USB 3.0 port for charging your devices. All these features make the X440 one of the bikes with the most features in its class.
