A Closer Look At Bajaj’s Baby NS In The Flesh

The Pulsar NS125 is one of the sportiest 125cc bikes on sale in India
Bajaj surprised us about two months back by launching its smallest motorcycle bearing the NS badge, the Pulsar NS125. Now, with lockdowns being eased in most cities, the bike has started reaching dealerships. At a glance, it’s quite evident Bajaj wasn’t going for something ‘stand out’ with the Pulsar NS 125. Its styling is similar to its elder siblings, mostly the Pulsar NS160.
It looks well slotted in the NS family but the design seems rather aged in these modern times.
While the sporty signature headlamp, pilot lamp, muscular tank design and LED tail lamp look good, the four bikes in the NS family are differentiated merely by paint jobs.
Speaking of paint jobs, the NS125 is offered in Beach Blue, Fiery Orange, Burnt Red, and Pewter Grey. All of them feature grey alloys with rim stickers complementing the colour scheme.
The features on the Pulsar NS125 are, again, a little lacklustre. All you get is a semi-digital instrument cluster, CBS, and halogen illumination.
The only LED element in this package is the tail lamp.
The baby NS is powered by a new 124.45cc single-cylinder motor that puts out 12PS and 11Nm, 2.5PS and 1Nm less than the KTM 125 Duke.
That said, with a lower seat height of 805mm and a kerb weight of 144kg, the NS 125 should be more easy-going for newbies, compared to the baby Duke.
The biggest USP of the NS family has always been underpinnings and it’s a similar story here. The NS 125’s motor is housed in a trusty perimeter frame, inspired by its elder siblings, while a telescopic fork and a monoshock soak bumps.
Braking hardware on the NS125 comprises a 240mm disc up front and a 130mm disc at the rear. The absence of even a single-channel ABS is a bummer, though.
The Pulsar NS125 is priced at Rs 93,960 (ex-showroom Delhi), a massive Rs 60,000 less than the KTM 125 Duke. However, if you want a motorcycle just for commuting, there are cheaper alternatives in this space such as the Honda Shine, Hero Glamour 125, or even the Pulsar 125.
