Bajaj has improved upon the motor’s performance…but there’s a downside to it
A leaked homologation document of a new Bajaj Chetak has surfaced online, revealing some interesting details of the upcoming e-scooter. The updated Chetak will be slightly more powerful than before, however, it will pack a slightly smaller battery.
Bajaj will be updating the Chetak’s mid-mounted motor to belt out 4.2kW, down from the current-gen model’s 4.08kW, at 60kmph. The document also revealed that the new model can produce 4kW continuous power for 30 minutes at 60kmph.

Interestingly, the new Bajaj Chetak will sport a 2.884kWh battery, going down from the current model’s 3kWh unit. The new battery is down on amperage too, from the current Chetak’s 60.3Ah to 57.24Ah. This may theoretically shorten the range of the new model from the current-gen Chetak’s 90km range, however, we’ll reserve our judgement until the official details are out.
The new Bajaj Chetak is expected to hit the showrooms in the coming months. We expect a slight revision in the cost from its current price of Rs 1,42,390 (ex-showroom). In November 2021, the Chetak became eligible for FAME-II subsidiary benefit worth Rs 45,000. However, Bajaj simultaneously increased the price of the scooter, thus ultimately giving its customers a benefit of just Rs 2,597. But with a new manufacturing plant coming up, Bajaj might just increase localisation and could bring the cost down.
