The Tata Punch’s Doors Will Open Wide… Reaaaaaally Wide!

The micro SUV will get doors that can open up to 90 degrees, a feature that debuted in the Altroz

People of more generous proportions who have ever sat inside the Tata Altroz might remember with fondness its doors that can swing 90 degrees wide. Well, the upcoming Punch will have the same kind of functionality.

The 90 degree doors allow easier ingress and egress for old people or those with the aforementioned larger body frames. And coupled with what seems like a decent seat height, ingress and egress should be quite easy. That said, we will reserve our verdict when we get behind the wheel of Tata’s micro SUV soon.

On to the features. The Punch will get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a semi-digital instrument cluster, drive modes, a Harman sound system, cruise control, and auto headlamps and wipers. Passenger safety should be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors with cameras.

Propelling the Punch will be Tata’s 86PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, paired either with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. A diesel engine won’t be on offer, but the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and an all-electric powertrain can come at a later stage.

More details about the Tata Punch will be revealed on October 4, after which the SUV will go on sale later that month. It’s likely to be priced from Rs 5.5 lakh, putting it in the same league as the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT
