Bharat NCAP crash tests are likely commenced.
Tata Punch snapped with curtain airbags in latest crash test result images.
This could result in the micro SUV getting six airbags.
Earlier, the Punch scored five stars in Global NCAP crash tests as per the older regime.
Currently, it gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX mounts for child seats as standard safety features.
It appears that Bharat NCAP has commenced crash testing for cars, as the website is now live with images of tested cars available online. One image that particularly caught our attention is of the Punch, which was seen equipped with six airbags (curtain airbags). This could mean that Tata might offer six airbags with the micro SUV and bolster its safety rating even further.

Earlier, the Punch scored five stars in the Global NCAP crash tests as per their older testing regime, obtaining 16.45 points out of 17 for adult protection and 40.89 points out of 49 for child protection. This makes the Punch the most affordable car in our market to achieve a 5-star safety rating. Head over to our previous report to check out its crash test score in detail.

The Punch is currently equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, and rear parking sensors along with a parking camera. With six airbags on board, the Punch will be in line in terms of safety with its competitors like the Hyundai Exter, which comes standard with six airbags. Do note that the Exter is yet to be crash tested by any NCAP.

Bharat NCAP is India’s own car assessment crash safety program, replacing Global NCAP for crash testing cars sold in India. Its testing criteria closely aligns with the norms set by Global NCAP, testing three units of the base variant of the nominated model for crash tests. You can find more details about the testing criteria of Bharat NCAP here.

And finally, images of the Sonet being crash-tested are also available on the Bharat NCAP website. The crash test scores of both the Kia Sonet and Tata Punch are yet to be revealed by Bharat NCAP.
