Bajaj Urbanite Spied Again!

The Bajaj e-scooter has been spotted testing by us today. This is the second time it has been seen in Pune, covered head to toe in camouflage. Could this mean that its launch is on the horizon? Likely. Sources close to the company has also revealed that the e-scooter might be called 'Chetak' and will be sold under the brand's Urbanite range. Additionally, Bosch is said to have a major role in the development of the electric Chetak.

Coming to the spy shots, let’s take a look at what’s new here. We can now clearly make out the scooter will run a front disc/rear drum brake setup. The scooter is most likely to be sporting 12-inch alloy wheels at both ends. In terms of practicality, the scooter also appears to get a front apron-mounted storage compartment, which could be removable and optional. While we couldn’t make out much else on the styling front, the Urbanite also seems to be sporting a fully digital instrument console.

Earlier spy shots had already confirmed that the e-scooter will be sporting a retro design, an evolution of sorts of the Bajaj Chetak, its namesake. Other design elements include handlebar-mounted LED headlamps, apron-mounted turn indicators, stepped seat and LED tail lamps.

While we may have seen the scooter in the flesh a couple of times now, what it packs internally still remains a mystery. We are expecting its electric setup to be a cut above the norm, since we in our car clocked 70kmph trying to keep up with it on the highway.

Our sources tell us Bajaj might launch the e-scooter as soon as the next 2-3 months if all bugs are resolved! In terms of pricing, sources say it might be priced on par with the Ather 450 i.e. around Rs 1.1 lakh (on-road)
