For those of you who are looking for a compact SUV in the Rs 15 lakh range (on-road), the newly launched Grand Vitara’s second-from-base Delta variant should be in your consideration. It comes with compact SUV-like styling touches, a decent enough features list, and fuel-efficient petrol engine.

In terms of design, the Grand Vitara Delta looks exactly the same as the base-spec Sigma variant. So it gets halogen projector headlamps and steel wheels with plastic covers. You still do get premium styling touches like the LED DRLs that double up as turn indicators and connected LED tail lamps.

On the inside, the Grand Vitara’s dashboard is finished in a black/maroon theme, which is standard in all the mild-hybrid variants. Another big addition over the base variant is the presence of a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality as well.

Other notable features in this variant include cruise control, automatic climate control, a coloured multi-info display, steering-mounted audio controls, keyless entry with push button start and electronically adjustable and folding ORVMs. Passenger safety is taken care of by dual airbags, hill hold assist, electronic stability control, and rear parking camera with sensors.

In terms of engine options, the Grand Vitara Delta gets just the 103PS, 1.5-litre, mild-hybrid petrol unit. This is the base variant for the six-speed automatic box, which is sold alongside the five-speed manual. You need to climb up the range for the optional all-wheel drive with the same engine or an even more fuel-efficient, 116PS, 1.5-litre strong-hybrid engine.

The Grand Vitara Delta is priced at Rs 11.9 lakh for the manual and Rs 13.4 lakh for the automatic. It locks horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, MG Astor, and the Toyota Hyryder.
