Maruti Offers A Better Glimpse Of Its Upcoming Hyundai Creta Challenger

While it’ll be the same as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder under the skin, the Maruti compact SUV will come with reworked profiles

  • Teasers reveal NEXA-styled LED DRLs and a different front grille.

  • Other design differences should be present in the alloy wheels, bumpers and LED tail lamps.

  • Cabin will be largely the same against the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder aside from different colours.

  • Will be powered by 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid power units.

  • Prices are likely to start from Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

As we get closer to the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara’s debut on July 20, more dope on the upcoming compact SUV continues to surface. This time, the latest teasers offer a better glimpse at how it’ll look on the outside. Sure, it's essentially Suzuki’s version of the recently unveiled Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, but the teasers reveal a different identity.

From the teaser video, it is clear that the Grand Vitara’s ‘face’ will be different compared with its Toyota counterpart. For starters, instead of sleek DRLs as in the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the Grand Vitara gets the beefier NEXA-style DRLs which first showed up in the 2022 Baleno. Aside from that, the front grille also comes with Suzuki’s own design language.

While we haven’t noticed any other differences in the teaser video, Maruti earlier confirmed connected LED tail lamps instead of the split setup in the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Also expect the alloy wheels and bumpers to be different on the Grand Vitara.

On the inside, the differences are likely to be kept to a minimum and should likely be in the form of a different interior theme and upholstery. On the feature front, the Grand Vitara will be loaded with kit such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital driver display, ventilated front seats, connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, ambient lighting, an Arkamys-tuned sound system and cruise control. Six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX anchorages should cover passenger safety.

Under the hood is where things will remain the same between the Maruti and Toyota compact SUVs. Both will come with 1.5-litre engines featuring mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid options. The mild-hybrid engine will get an optional first-in-segment all-wheel-drive system as well.
