Maruti has added the Baleno hatchback and XL6 MPV to its lineup of CNG powered cars with prices starting from Rs 8.28 lakh and Rs 11.29 lakh (all prices ex-showroom), respectively. This is the first time that a Nexa product has been offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit.

The Baleno’s CNG kit is available in the middle trims of the hatchback: Delta and Zeta. They carry a premium of Rs 95,000 over their concurrent petrol-powered trims.

The CNG-powered XL6 is offered in the base-spec Zeta trim only. You will have to shell out Rs 95,000 more for the CNG kit in comparison to the standard trim.
XL6 CNG specs
The standard XL6 makes use of a 1.5-litre petrol engine (making 103PS and 137Nm). The output of the MPV drops to 88PS and 121.5Nm when the same unit is run purely on CNG. The CNG kit is paired to a five-speed manual transmission only and boasts a fuel economy of 26.32km/kg.
Baleno CNG specs
The standard Baleno gets a 1.2-litre Dual Jet petrol engine (making 90PS and 113Nm). The CNG equipped Baleno gets the same unit which develops 77PS and 98.5Nm when run on pure CNG mode. It is geared using a five-speed manual transmission, unlike the petrol-powered variant which also gets a five-speed AMT. The claimed fuel efficiency for the hatchback in CNG mode is 30.61km/kg.

The Maruti Baleno is the only CNG-powered premium hatchback in the country, although that won’t be the case forever as it’ll soon be joined by the Toyota Glanza CNG, offline bookings for which are also underway.
