Despite it being a midlife refresh, the Baleno has gone through quite some extensive changes

After a long period of teasers, and a raft of inside info being leaked, Maruti Suzuki has launched the facelifted Baleno hatchback at prices starting from Rs 6.35 lakh lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Sure, this isn’t a generation update, but the changes are quite extensive compared to the model it replaces. Here’s a closer look at what separates the two Balenos in detailed images:

Starting up front, the updated Baleno has gone up in size and sports a new mesh as well. A sleeker pair of LED headlights with tri-arrow DRLs gives the Baleno a bolder identity.

The front bumper has gotten sportier, featuring a larger housing for the fog lamps as well as wider air dams.

Head over to the sides, and the facelifted Baleno’s silhouette is largely similar to the outgoing model, aside from a mildly revised set of alloy wheels.

Head towards the rear, and we’ve got a new set of split-LED tail lamps with the reflectors on the bumpers being positioned slightly higher.

The big change lies inside, with an all-new dual-tone black/blue dashboard layout with silver highlights  to keep things fresh. You’ll also notice the same shade extending towards the door trims and upholstery. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice the steering wheel has been lifted from the Swift/Dzire, but with silver inserts.

The big change undoubtedly is the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. That has led to a revised central console with new AC vents and climate control knobs.

New features in the facelifted Baleno include a head-up display, 360-degree camera, connected car tech with Alexa support, six airbags, and electronic stability control with hill-hold assist. The likes of automatic climate control, keyless entry with push button start, and cruise control continue to be retained.

Under the hood, the updated Baleno now only gets the 90PS 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine, which is paired with a 5-speed manual as standard. There’ll be no mild-hybrid tech from before, and the automatic option will be a 5-speed AMT over the CVT.

The facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno is offered in four trims: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha, and will rekindle its rivalry with the Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, and the soon-to-be-launched updated Toyota Glanza.
