Not the most awe-worthy update, but we’ll take it
At a typical launch, brands tend to roll out one or maybe two models, but not Yamaha, as it rolled out updates for four of its bikes - R15 (and R15M), MT-15, FZ-S and FZ-X. In this article we will be looking at what’s new in the R15 range and MT-15 with this update; check out this story to know what’s new on the FZ-S and FZ-X.
The Yamaha R15 is a fairly sophisticated motorcycle. However, Yamaha India has managed to squeeze out just a bit more from both the R15 V4 and R15M in this update. While both bikes now get LED indicators as standard, the R15M gets a colour TFT screen, which the R15 V4 misses out on. The new screen gets day and night mode and Bluetooth connectivity, but sadly misses turn-by-turn navigation.
On the MT-15 V2, the update is more significant. Firstly, it gets the traction control system as seen on the R15 V4. This should help riders push the streetfighter harder into corners with a better sense of confidence. The next update on the MT-15 is dual channel ABS, something we at Zig felt was missing on the V2 when we did our road test review of it last year.

With these updates, the R15 V4 and R15M are now Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,500 dearer, whereas the MT-15 will cost you Rs 4,000 more than before. While the premium asked for the respective updates is not a big leap, we really would have liked to see the R15M’s colour TFT screen make its way to the standard R15 V4 and MT-15 V2 as well.
