Triumph Tiger 1200 To Launch On 11 May

After showcasing the Tiger 1200 at the 2017 EICMA motor show, it looks like Triumph is all set to launch the motorcycle in India on 11 May. The flagship motorcycle is expected to fetch a hefty price tag of around Rs 20 lakh and will be brought here as a CBU.

For the 2018 version, the British bikemaker has introduced "over 100 changes" to the older model. This includes removal of the 'Explorer' suffix from the name. Cosmetic updates involve minor revisions to the fairing and body. Other changes include all-LED lighting, a full-colour 5.0-inch TFT instrument cluster as seen on the Tiger 800, electronically adjustable windscreen and an updated cruise control system. 

The updated bike also weighs a substantial 10kg less than the older model thanks to improvements to the engine, chassis and exhaust. The riding dynamics have also been revised and now feature more upright ergonomics. All this should ideally improve the touring experience.

Powering the 2018 Tiger 1200 is the same 1215cc inline triple motor which churns out 141PS of power at 9350rpm and 122Nm of torque at 7600rpm. The motorcycle now get six riding modes, including a new 'Off-road Pro', which as the name suggests, turns all the electronic aids off. Speaking of electronics, Triumph states that the cornering ABS, traction control and hill hold functionality have been refined on the newer model.

While Triumph offers six versions of the Tiger 1200 internationally, we expect only three of them to arrive here: the XR, XCx and XRx variants. Once launched, the 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 will go up against the BMW R 1200 GS and the upcoming Ducati Multistrada 1260.
