It’s been revealed that Royal Enfield is set to launch the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 somewhere between 22 to 26 September 2018. With this development, we can expect them to be launched in India around Diwali.
Royal Enfield bikes enjoy a huge following both domestically and internationally. And the upcoming twins are no exception too, having gained plentiful interest in international markets. This could very well be the reason for the Chennai-based company to launch the 650cc twins in California first.
Initially unveiled at the 2017 EICMA Motor Show, the Royal Enfield twins have arguably been the most anticipated motorcycles of the year. Initially, the company was planning to launch the two bikes before the first half of 2018. However, as we reported earlier, that plan was delayed in order to minimise delays in deliveries and increase the quality standard.
Both the bikes are powered by the company’s first 650cc, parallel-twin, oil-cooled engines, developed in-house from the ground up. This engine produces 47.7PS of power and 52Nm of torque, with fuel injection as standard. The 6-speed gearbox will be the first seen on any Royal Enfield as well.
While the Interceptor 650 is designed to be a retro-styled motorcycle, reminiscent of the old-school California cruiser, the Continental GT 650 will be a cafe racer.
