BMW Motorrad products are currently available in India through two distributors - Deutsche Motoren, covering the Delhi and NCR region, and Navnit Motors for the rest of the country. Now, it has been reported that by October 2016, BMW Motorrad will be officially making its entry in India, as informed by Stefan Schaller, the president and CEO of BMW Motorrad at the ongoing 2016 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
The company has showcased some of its products at the 2016 Auto Expo but had remained tight-lipped about any future plans so far. Based on the statement made by Stefan Schaller we can safely assume the company to open new dealerships in India starting with metro cities.
Subsequently, with the official entry of the brand, BMW Motorrad will also be launching the much-awaited G 310 R motorcycle. The bike has been developed and designed completely by BMW Motorrad and will be manufactured by TVS Motor at its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. The showroom space of the BMW Motorrad dealership is likely to be shared by the Indian-made G 310 R with other CBU models offered by the company.
Based on the same platform as the G 310 R, TVS had also unveiled the Akula 310 at the 2016 Auto Expo. The bike is highly anticipated to be introduced in India soon after the launch of the BMW. The G 310 R will mark the company's entry in the sub-500cc capacity of motorcycles in the market. When launched, the motorcycle will compete against the like of the Mahindra Mojo and the KTM 390 Duke.
