Bajaj Chetak Gets Quite Pricey

The Urbane model has received quite a serious price hike

Did you think electrics would be spared from price hikes? The answer is a saddening no as Bajaj has upped the asking price for its Chetak electric scooter. It will continue to be offered only in Pune and Bengaluru for now. Here’s the ex-showroom pricing:

Bajaj Chetak Variant

New Prices

Old Prices

Difference

Urbane

Rs 1,15,000

Rs 1,00,000

Rs 15,000

Premium

Rs 1,20,000

Rs 1,15,000

Rs 5,000

Bajaj has been severely affected by the disruption in the supply chain of components that are sourced from China due to COVID-19. The company has also tried to increase the amount of localisation on the Chetak but we are yet to get any concrete information on that front.

With this revision in prices, the Chetak has become quite a lot dearer than the TVS iQube Electric but it is still respectably cheaper than the Ather 450X. Sadly, only citizens of Bengaluru have the option to choose between all three of these electric scooters. Ather’s expansion programme has hit the ground running in the past couple of months, and even TVS has started offering the iQube in Delhi. Will Bajaj also increase the presence of the Chetak in the coming months to EV-friendly cities such as Delhi and Chennai?
