A New Twin-cylinder From Benelli Incoming

While Benelli has revealed just a picture, a leaked screenshot tells us a lot more about the bike

Benelli BJ400J

Eastern markets are in constant ferment, and we see one model after the other from them. This time, it’s Benelli who has revealed a new motorcycle.

Named the BJ400J, the bike looks loaded with accessories, meaning this could either be a touring-focused motorcycle or a police-specific fleet bike. That said, the writing on the left pannier translated to ‘public security’ and hence there’s a bigger chance of the bike being used as part of the  police fleet.

While Benelli is still tight-lipped about the bike, two leaked screenshots from the company’s website reveal more. According to these, the bike comes shod with 17-inch wheels, gets ABS, and the 400cc engine produces 44.86PS, making it 1.36PS more powerful than the KTM 390 Duke. That said, its 243kg weight makes it a very heavy motorcycle and it will quite certainly offset its power advantage.

Apart from that, the screenshot says that the bike’s wheelbase is 1430mm and that the bike has a claimed top speed of 162kmph.

We suspect the engine could be an evolution of the 300cc parallel-twin that we’ve seen before on the likes of the 302S and 302R. That way, complying with the Euro5 norms would be easier as well.

Apart from the screenshots, the picture tells us that the bike will get an inverted fork, though without much suspension travel. The headlight seems to be a twin-halogen setup, and the big windscreen along with the chunky fuel tank hint at its long distance riding intentions. The design is inspired from the company’s flagship grand-tourer, the 1200GT.

While the bike is unlikely to make its way to India, we have the Benelli TRK 502 here, which is a pretty decent mile-muncher as well.
