Bajaj hasn’t transferred the subsidy to the customer
Bajaj has finally cracked it. The Chakan-based manufacturer has made all the necessary updates to its Chetak electric scooter, earning FAME 2 subsidies worth Rs 45,000. Here’s the latest ex-showroom Pune price:
Old ex-showroom price |
New ex-showroom price |
Price difference |
|
Bajaj Chetak |
Rs 1,44,987 |
Rs 1,42,390 |
Rs 2,597 |
The reason why the subsidies haven’t made much of a difference is because Bajaj has hiked the base price (now Rs 1,87,390) by a considerable amount. Hence, the Rs 45,000 subsidy isn’t as helpful for the customer.
Moreover, you can only book the Premium (front disc) variant of the Chetak right now. The Urbane (front drum) variant is currently not available, but Bajaj has assured us that it will be back on the website soon.

Considering the current crop of electric scooters, especially the Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube Electric, and the Ather 450X, the Chetak’s lack of performance and features does not bode well for it. It remains a pricey offering.
