BMW Motorrad vs Rivals: Dealership Network And Warranty

After what seems like a lifetime, the BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS are finally here at a premium price tag of Rs 2.99 lakh and Rs 3.49 lakh (prices, ex-showroom Delhi), respectively. On the bright side, the Bavarian company is offering various schemes that could help buying one a little easier on your wallet.

We already know how the G 310 R and G 310 GS stacks up against its rivals. So let's take a look whether it’s practical to own a 300cc Beemer when compared to its competition. Here's a quick comparison of the dealer network and warranty benefits that BMW and its competitors offer.

BMW Motorrad

Currently, BMW Motorrad has seven dealerships in the country - Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Kochi. In addition to this, BMW will also be setting up new ones in Chandigarh and Kolkata. Considering the fact that the G 310 R and GS are BMW’s first stab at the mass market segment, expect more cities to follow suit.

Both motorcycles are offered with a 3-year/unlimited km warranty and a year’s worth of roadside assistance (RSA) for free. Buyers can even extend the warranty by another two years for an additional fee. They can even opt for BMW’s ‘Motorrad Essential’ pack which consists of riding gear, helmet and more. Customers even have the choice of opting for an EMI scheme of Rs 6,999 and Rs 7,999 for the G 310 R and the G 310 GS, respectively.

KTM

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has a total of 119 dealerships across the country thanks to its partnership with Bajaj Auto. So expect BMW to face a tough time catching up with its closest competitor. Currently, KTM offers a warranty package that’s valid for 24 months or 30,000km. However, unlike BMW, it will charge you extra for roadside assistance. That said, it is free for the first year as the charges are included in the motorcycle’s retail price. If you wish to renew it for another year, you’d need to shell out Rs 835, which honestly isn’t much.

The KTM 390 Duke can be bought on a monthly instalment of Rs 8,970 for three years. To avail this scheme, however, you’ll have to shell out Rs 54,700 as a down payment.

TVS Motor Company

TVS, which is responsible for manufacturing the two 300cc Beemers, has a little over 50 dealerships in the country. Currently, it offers a 5-year/60,000km warranty package for the Apache RR 310, while roadside assistance is free for the first two years.

In terms of financing, customers have the option of shelling out Rs 6,932 over a span of three years for the Apache RR 310. For this, however, a down payment of Rs 78,000 is required.

Kawasaki

One of the closest competitors of the BMW G 310 GS, the Versys-X 300, is sold across Kawasaki’s 30 dealerships in the country. The Japanese bike manufacturer has also launched an app that helps owners locate service camps, schedule a service appointment and even keep track of their bike’s service history. Kawasaki currently offers a 2-year warranty package, which is valid for 30,000km. While there is no roadside assistance on offer, the company’s app should come in handy in case you get stranded on the side of the road.

If you want to opt for the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 over the BMW G 310 GS, be prepared to shell out Rs 14,531 per month for three years after a down payment of Rs 1.20 lakh.

Bajaj Auto

The second biggest auto manufacturer in the country has a strong dealership network. With more than 700 showrooms spread across 400 cities in the country, the company boasts of a healthy number of customers. The Chakan-based manufacturer currently offers a 5-year/45,000km warranty for its motorcycles. It’s flagship offering, the Dominar 400 (ABS), can be had for a reasonable down payment of Rs 38,890 and an EMI of 5,898 per month over three years.
