Toyota India has discontinued the TRD Limited Edition of the Fortuner. It was priced between Rs 34.98 lakh and Rs 36.98 lakh (ex-showroom) and commanded a premium of Rs 2.30 lakh over the standard Fortuner. The latest development hints at the imminent launch of the facelifted Fortuner, whose bookings have commenced unofficially

Most of the updates in the Fortuner TRD were cosmetic. It sported a tweaked grille with a black garnish and TRD logo as well as redesigned bumpers. It also came with black alloy wheels as well as a blacked-out roof. TRD badging at the rear screamed its exclusivity.

Inside, the Fortuner TRD came with a black-red interior colour scheme. It packed additional features such as auto-folding ORVMs, a 360-degree camera, and illuminated scuff plates. There was a technology pack which added a tyre pressure monitor, head-up display, wireless smartphone charger for rear passenger, digital video recorder (DVR), an air ionizer and a welcome door lamp for an additional cost.

The Fortuner TRD was offered with Toyota’s 177PS 2.8-litre diesel engine. It was offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission in 4x2 and 4x4 variants.

The Fortuner TRD wasn’t exactly value-for-money and appealed to those who wanted a sportier looking Fortuner. Toyota will soon launch the facelifted Fortuner with better looks, more equipment and possibly a more powerful 204PS/500Nm diesel engine. The carmaker is expected to bring in the sportier looking Legender variant as well. We expect the facelifted Fortuner to reach showrooms by early-2021 with a starting price of Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
