KTM 250 Adventure vs BMW G 310 GS: Performance Numbers Compared

Can KTM’s baby Adventure be quicker than BMW’s entry-level GS?

Adventure motorcycles aren’t really about quarter-mile times and 0-100 dashes, but it never hurts to have bragging rights in these areas. Today, we’re going to pit KTM’s smallest adventure bike, the 250 Adventure, against BMW’s entry-level ADV, the G 310 GS, to see how they stack up in terms of performance.

There is no replacement for engine displacement, because despite shorter gearing, the KTM can’t make up for its cubic capacity deficit. It’s over a second slower to 60kmph, and this delta widens to over two seconds by the 100kmph mark.

It’s a similar story in terms of roll-on acceleration as well, with the Beemer’s clear power and torque advantage giving it the upper hand. The 3rd gear dash from 30 to 70kmph is completed 1.2 seconds quicker, while the 4th gear 40 to 80kmph run is a whole 2.1 seconds quicker.

It may have a slightly smaller front disc, but the GS is marginally lighter than the KTM, weighing in at 175kg compared to the Adventure’s 177kg. This weight advantage contributes to the Beemer stopping quicker than the Austrian. Quite a lot quicker, in fact. A whole 4.5 metres quicker from 100kmph.

Respite for the KTM comes in the form of fuel efficiency numbers, an area in which it comprehensively betters the BMW. Out on the highway, it manages 2.5km more from each litre of fuel, but in the city, where most bikes spend most of their time, the Adventure is a massive 9kmpl more efficient than the GS.
