Italian manufacturer Voge has launched the Valico 300 Rally in its home country. The bike is basically a more hardcore variant of the road-focused Valico 300DS.
The Valico 300 Rally looks like it came straight out of a Dakar rally with its distinct beak, handguards, tall flyscreen and a tall, narrow profile. The bike gets a halogen headlight with LED indicators and taillight. The front of the Valico is reminiscent of the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin.
AT this heart of this ADV is a 292cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with 29PS and 25Nm, putting it 1PS below but 1Nm above the KTM 250 Adventure. At 150kg (dry), the Valico 300 Rally is a whole 27kg lighter than the 250 Adventure, which should ideally offset the slightly less power it has.
You get a 37mm upside-down fork at the front with a single shock absorber at the rear which is adjustable for preload. Other underpinnings include a 265mm disc brake at the front and 220mm at the rear. The Valico 300 Rally hence might be close to the 250 Adventure when it comes to the engine output figures, but the KTM ADV has a better equipment on offer with a 43mm USD fork, 320mm disc brake at the front and 230mm one at the rear.
Boosting its off-road credentials are the spoked wheels with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoked wheels wrapped with knobby tyres and 205mm suspension travel up front. What makes it even more Dakaresque is the 905mm seat height, making it not very easily accessible for shorter riders. That said, the seat’s slim profile should (somewhat) help in grounding your feet. As you hop on the seat, you’ll find a negative LCD instrument cluster staring back at you. There’s no connectivity or navigation though.
A claimed fuel efficiency of 31kmpl coupled with the 11-litre fuel tank should give the bike a decent range. With a claimed top speed of 125kmph, it may not be extremely highway-friendly.
Carrying a price tag of 4,190 Euros (approximately Rs 3,47,934) makes it a lot more affordable against the KTM 250 Adventure’s 5,985 Euros (approximately Rs 4,96,989). The Valico 300 Rally is currently on sale in one colour, which is the Lemon Yellow one.
The motorcycle is unlikely to come to the Indian market. So if you’re looking for small-capacity ADVs, you could have a look at the Royal Enfield Himalayan, KTM 390 Adventure, Yezdi Adventure and the most affordable of the lot, the Hero XPulse 200.
