2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 Launched In India At Rs 17 Lakh

After showcasing it at the 2017 EICMA motor show, Triumph India has officially launched the 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 series in India today. Although the Tiger 1200 comes in six different variants internationally, the company will only offer the XCx variant here, priced at Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom India).

Triumph states that "over 100 changes" have been made on the new motorcycle, which include removal of the 'Explorer' suffix. So, the bike will now be called the Tiger 1200 instead of the Tiger Explorer. On the cosmetic front, the motorcycle retains a similar design language as the outgoing model, barring some minor revisions done to the fairing and the body. Noteworthy changes include all LED-lighting, a full-coloured 5.0-inch TFT instrument panel, which is seen on the Tiger 800, an updated cruise control system and electronically adjustable windscreen.

The company has also made improvements to the engine, chassis and exhaust, which has helped the bike in shedding 5kg! Riding dynamics have also been revised and now feature upright ergonomics, for a more comfortable touring experience. 

Powering the motorcycle is the same 1215cc in-line triple motor, which delivers 141PS of power at 9350rpm and 122Nm of torque at 7600rpm. The 2018 model also gets an electronic suspension. It now features five riding modes, including a new 'Off-road Pro' mode, which turns off all the electronic aids and firms up the suspension. Triumph states that the cornering ABS, traction control and hill-hold functions have also been refined on the new model. 

The 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 will compete against the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, priced at Rs 17.1 lakh and Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro, which retails for Rs 18.04 lakh (all prices ex-Delhi).
