Maruti Fronx vs Brezza: Similarities And Dissimilarities In 12 Images

Maruti created a lot of fuss at this year’s Auto Expo, and for good reasons. Apart from the debut of the much-awaited Jimny, the carmaker unveiled a brand-new SUV called the Fronx. It’s a sub-4m crossover SUV based on the Baleno hatchback. The introduction of the Fronx takes the tally of sub-4m SUVs in Maruti’s lineup to two - a first for Maruti. So we compare the two sub-4m SUVs using 12 images. Let’s go:

Size

The Fronx and Brezza, both are exactly the same in terms of overall length but the Fronx sports a slightly larger wheelbase. In the other two factors, the Brezza gets the better of the Fronx with a taller height and wider width. 

Design

Even though both the SUVs come from the same womb and fare very close in terms of dimensions, they look nothing alike. The Brezza is a boxy SUV, while the Fronx has a coupe-ish silhouette, and that’s probably why the former looks more like an outright SUV in comparison.

The front of the Brezza is an evolution over its predecessor with a split grille setup and LED DRLs integrated within the headlights. In contrast, the Fronx’s front end has taken a large chunk of inspiration from the Grand Vitara’s design with a similar split headlight setup and a massive grille with chrome bits connecting the DRLs.

In profile, the Brezza looks a lot more SUV-ish, thanks to its boxy silhouette and heavily cladded wheel arches. Even though the wheel arch cladding is pretty much the same for the Fronx as well, its sloping roofline gives it more of a crossover-like appearance.

Sleek LED taillights for the Brezza and the connected tailight setup for the Fronx, give the two SUVs a unique identity. Brezza’s boxy styling is still prominent here and both get heavily cladded dual-tone bumpers.

Interior

The layouts for both the SUVs look same to an extent because the steering shape and design of the cluster behind are alike .

However, the dashboard designs are different and even the theme for the interior colours are unique for both. 

Powertrain

The Brezza and Fronx completely differ when it comes to powertrain options. The former gets a single 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance, while the latter gets two options: a turbo-petrol with mild-hybrid assist and a naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both SUVs get the choice of a manual or an automatic transmission, irrespective of the powertrain.

The Brezza is based on its predecessor’s Global-C platform, while the Fronx is based on the Baleno’s HEARTECT platform.

Features

This is the only parameter in which both SUVs are inseparable. Both pack premium features like nine-inch infotainment, heads-up display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ARKAMYS sound system, and wireless charging. But the Brezza gets a sunroof and ambient lighting as well – both of which have been given a miss in the Brezza.

The story is the same when it comes to safety, with both getting up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill-hold assist, and a 360-degree camera.

Price

Maruti retails the Brezza between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 13.96 (ex-showroom). Prices for the Fronx aren’t out as of now, but we expect them to be in the same ballpark as the Brezza. But given the fact that the Fronx gets a 1-litre turbo petrol engine, the prices for its corresponding trims could be higher than that of the top-spec Brezza. 

Family feud 

Given that the Maruti Fronx is a sub-4m offering, it’ll dive into the same segment as the Brezza. Maruti’s Nexa offering (Fronx) will offer an alternative to the Arena offering, and at the same time compete with similar rivals like the Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Honda WR-V, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the Renault Kiger.
