Hot on the heels of the Raider 125 launch, TVS has released a new teaser for its upcoming offering. While it reveals nothing more than a pair of sleek LED DRLs, we think it could be a new 125cc scooter.
We had learnt about TVS bringing a more traditional family 125cc scooter to rival the Suzuki Access 125 and Honda Activa 125. What will the scooter be called? The obvious choice would be to name it Jupiter 125. However, TVS had also filed a trademark for the ‘Retron’ name, which we thought would be reserved for a retro, old-school commuter motorcycle.
We know that TVS already has a 125cc engine in its kitty. The 124.8cc 3-valve motor of the NTorq got a big bump up in performance in 2021, which you can read about here. For the upcoming scooter, the engine will be tuned down to extract better fuel efficiency. It is likely that TVS could use the BS6 tune (9.38PS and 10.5Nm) of the NTorq, which is currently available on all trims of the scooter barring the Race XP (10.2PS and 10.8Nm), alter the gearing of the CVT and improve the fuel efficiency on offer.
Details regarding the scooter remain scarce. Hopefully, we should have some clarity on the scooter in the coming few weeks.
