Triumph Unveils 2019 Street Twin, Street Scrambler: Intermot 2018

Triumph has unveiled a new iteration of the Street Twin and the Street Scrambler at the 2018 Intermot show in Cologne, Germany. Both the motorcycles get significant mechanical changes and subtle cosmetic changes.

Power is now up from 55PS to 65PS, which according to the company is an 18 per cent increase - we will let them do the math on that. It also redlines at 7500rpm now, higher by 500rpm, giving a little more flexibility between the gears. Torque figures remain similar at 80Nm but now arrives at 3,800rpm instead of the earlier 3,200rpm.

Since the Street Twin and the Street Scrambler are identical in many ways, the changes are almost identical too. Visually, there isn’t much change, barring the brushed aluminium brackets on the headlights, the redesigned logo and the cast aluminium wheels.

The engine now comes wrapped in magnesium and there’s a lighter clutch, lighter crankshaft, and balancer shaft in the mix. The Nissin two-piston brake callipers seen on the earlier version have been replaced by Brembo four-piston callipers for more biting power. The 2019 model also gets aluminium multi-spoke wheels and higher-spec cartridge front forks for improved composure. On the electronics front, both the motorcycles now come with two new riding modes, Road and Rain, along with switchable traction control. While ABS is standard on both bikes, the Street Scrambler gets a switchable unit. Then there is the optional tyre pressure monitoring system on both bikes, which will always come in handy.

We expect Triumph to launch the 2019 Street Twin and the Street Scrambler in the first quarter of next year. Expect a minor price hike over the current pricing of the Street Twin and Street Scrambler, which retail for Rs 7.70 lakh and 8.60 lakh respectively.
