Vitara Brezza to be launched by first week of March

One of the most-awaited cars of the year, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza could be seen on the roads by as soon as the first week of March. The car has attracted plenty of attention since its unveiling at the recently concluded 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi and there has been widespread speculation surrounding the launch date of this new SUV from the stables of the Indian manufacturer.

While it was recently reported that the bookings of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza had commenced across various dealerships in the country, the approximate date of its launch has also been confirmed to us by a Maruti Suzuki dealer from Pune. Booking amounts to the tune of Rs 21,000 are being accepted and the car could be delivered by the first week of March. It was also informed to us that the fully-loaded model of the Vitara Brezza could be priced between Rs 9 to Rs 10 lakh.

The Vitara Brezza is Maruti’s first offering to be conceived, designed, developed and validated in India by Maruti's R&D team, led by Chief Engineer CV Raman. The design speaks of a youthful yet beefy car, enamelled with a sporty front fascia and a decently high 198mm ground clearance.

As for the powertrain, the car could initially be driven by only a diesel mill, to be followed by a petrol engine later. The diesel unit in contention is the renowned 1.3-litre unit sourced from Fiat that churns out 90PS and 200Nm. It would come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

In terms of safety, all variants will come with ABS and EBD as standard. For the sake of convenience, Maruti Suzuki has also fitted the Vitara Brezza with a reversing camera with parking sensors, keyless entry, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers and more.

After a sparkling debut at Maruti’s pavilion in Greater Noida, the Vitara Brezza is expected to be introduced in no less than six variants –  LDi, LDi (O), VDi, VDi (O), ZDi, and ZDi+. In this segment, the car will lock horns with cars like the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300 once it is launched.
