The American arm of Kawasaki Heavy Industries has reportedly announced the recall of certain models of the 2016 Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-10R ABS due to breakage of the bolt which secures the mounting of the steering damper. The reason for the bolt to break has been related to the possibility of being over-tightened during assembly of the motorcycle.

In an event where the bolt should snap, the steering damper will have no anchorage and cause interference with the steering of the motorcycle thus increasing the risk of an accident. The manufacturer has mentioned that the affected motorcycles were assembled between 28th October 2015 and 18th January 2016.

The recall was scheduled to start form 29th February where owners will be notified about the service measure. The authorised dealers has been informed to perform the replacement of the steering damper bracket at free of cost. Owners can also contact the customer service care centre and check if their motorcycle comes under the recall.

The 2016 generation of the Ninja ZX-10R was launched in India on 23rd February and carries a sticker price of Rs 16.4 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Currently, no announcement has been made by Kawasaki India regarding the recall.
