The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR is the personification of a wild concept from the ’90s — an inline-four 400cc screamer — that’s made a comeback. And what accompanies this format of engines is a melodic symphony, something that Kawasaki, especially, is known for. So how does this one sound? Kawasaki Indonesia has put up a video of the exact same thing, with three different exhausts: stock, Yoshimura Hepta Force TSS and Akrapovic. Check it out below:
The ZX-4RR’s stock exhaust has a sound that we’ve come to typically associate with inline-fours. It’s grunty lower down the revs and screams as you rev it up. Sweet, but nothing too fancy. The Yoshimura exhaust, on the other hand, is where things get interesting. It starts on a much more gruff note and the screams are a lot more pronounced as you give it the gas. It goes perfectly well with the screamer nature of the supersport.

Next, and the final one on the list, is the Akrapovic exhaust. This one idles at an even more low-pitched throaty note, one that your neighbours definitely won’t like, especially when you crank the bike up early in the morning for your Sunday ride. Where the Akrapovic takes the cake is when you rev it up, sounding a lot more sophisticated than the other two and the pops and burbles are truly eargasmic.
It also pulls ahead of the other two with its visual appeal. It’s sleek and laden with carbon fibre. For those who find the stock exhaust too bulbous and the Yoshimura too subtle, the Akrapovic is definitely the perfect answer. So, while your neighbours and the street dogs won’t be happy, the Akrapovic will be attending to every sensory need of yours!

These things said, both the aftermarket exhausts aren’t road-legal so the only time when you can feast your ears on this is on a race track. What they will do though, is provide a fair bit of weight reduction.
