5 Features The Maruti Suzuki Jimny Gets Over The Mahindra Thar

The Jimny’s biggest rival in the Indian market is the Mahindra Thar, and Maruti is playing the features game by packing extra kit that the Thar doesn’t get
It’s no doubt the Maruti Suzuki Jimny’s biggest nemesis in India is the Mahindra Thar. The latter already has a very well established base and has proven to be a runaway success. However, Maruti now aims to grab a slice of its pie with the new Jimny 5-door. And like any other Maruti, the Jimny plays the features card to grab a bit of the spotlight.
Here are five features the Jimny gets and the Thar doesn’t:
Headlamps Washers
A very useful piece of kit, especially after a day of plodding around in the mud and slush. Besides, activating it is very simple too: just press the button on the dash below the driver's side AC vent and voila, your headlights are clean. No need to step out of the car and clean the headlights on your own. Speaking of which…
LED Headlights
The Jimny gets LED headlights in its top-spec Alpha trim along with LED DRLs. Based on our experience with Maruti cars, it should offer better visibility, especially at night, than the Thar’s archaic halogen units.
Automatic Climate Control
Both the SUVs get air conditioning, but the Jimny goes an extra step in the convenience factor by offering automatic climate control. For most owners who would be using this in the city, this feature is definitely a boon as you can set your desired temperature and fan speed easier.
Larger And Better Infotainment System
Both the Thar and Jimny get a touchscreen infotainment system. That said, the Jimny gets a larger 9-inch unit also seen in the Grand Vitara and Brezza, and based on our experience, it’s smooth and rather easy to use as well. The Thar, meanwhile, gets a smaller 7-inch unit which is easy to use, but has less sharp, old school graphics.
Electrically Folding ORVMs
Considering the Jimny (like most off-roaders) will be spending most of its time in the city, this feature makes a lot of sense, especially when driving around in tight lanes. The Thar gets electrical adjustment for the ORVM, but if you want to retract it, you gotta do it manually. No manual labour required in the Jimny.
So there you have it. These are the five things the Jimny does better than the Thar. But it’s not all rosy, as the Jimny lacks certain bits when compared to the Mahindra SUV. Stay tuned as we’ll be jotting down a report on that real soon.
