UK-spec Comparison: 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift vs Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

While the new UK-spec Swift only gets a single engine option, the UK-spec Hyundai i10 gets multiple engine sizes and guises

Seems like the wait for the new-gen Maruti Swift will prolong for some more time as there still are no talks of an India debut. But unlike us, a few other countries have been lucky enough to get the new Swift already. So while we wait for a launch here, we take a look at the Swift’s UK specs and compare them with the UK-spec Hyundai i10. Let’s go:

  • The Hyundai i10 gets both NA petrol and turbo petrol engines in the UK.

  • The Swift, on the other hand, is available with a sole NA petrol engine, but it is paired with a mild-hybrid system, unlike its Korean rival.

  • The Hyundai i10 gets two NA petrol engine options - a 1-litre 3-cylinder unit and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder unit. Both paired with either a 5-speed MT or 5-speed AMT.

  • In terms of power output, the Swift beats both the NA petrol engines of the Hyundai i10, but loses out slightly to the turbo-petrol unit.

  • Do note that the Swift gets both 2WD and all-wheel-drive options. The latter is something that the Hyundai i10 misses out on.

  • In terms of outright performance, the turbo-petrol Hyundai i10 is the clear winner with the quickest 0-100kmph time and the highest top speed.

  • The i10’s NA petrol engines are all slower than the 2WD Swift’s 0-100kmph time. Even their top speeds are slightly lower in comparison.

  • The 1-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine paired with the AMT is the slowest powertrain of the lot.

While the Maruti Swift retails between £18,699 to £21,049 (Rs 19.68 lakh to Rs 22.16 lakh), the Hyundai i10 is sold from £15,920 to £18,670 (Rs 16.64 lakh to Rs 19.52 lakh). These are on-road UK prices and we expect the Swift to be sold from Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards in India. It’ll continue to rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Punch and Renault Triber.
