While the 300cc bikes are close, the bigger ones are going to take some time
We admit it, Yamaha has kept us on the edge of our seats with excitement and anticipation of the arrival of their big bikes. And in a recent interview, Eishin Chihana, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India, has revealed the launch timelines of all their large-capacity motorcycles in India.
While Yamaha bikes may be quick and really fast, their big bikes arrival to our shores has taken a long long time. But this year will finally see the end of the wait for the Yamaha YZF-R3 and MT-03, which were showcased at a dealer event earlier this year.
The twin-cylinder 300cc supersport and naked are really admirable machines, and will debut in India by the end of this year. As we had reported earlier, bookings for these two symphony makers had already begun back in April.

That is the happy bit. Now, the sad bit is that those two are the only bikes coming to India in 2023 from Yamaha. But don’t be sad, because Yamaha has slated the launch of the bigger YZF-R7, MT-07 and MT-09 in 2024. But, Yamaha, do you promise to do so? Because we can barely keep it together now.
Now, when the R3 and MT-03 do come to India, they will come via the CKD (completely knocked down) route. Considering that India is a price sensitive market, would pricing a 300cc bike at around Rs 4 lakh be justified? Especially considering the competitively priced Triumph Speed 400 and the KTM RC 390 that comes packed with not only performance but also electronic aids, all at Rs 3.18 lakh.
On the other hand, the YZF-R7, MT-07 and MT-09 will only come in through the CBU route. All these bikes will be sold only through Yamaha’s premium Blue Square dealerships. If you want to know more about the pricing of these bikes, you can read our price analysis story here.
