Yamaha’s Twin-cylinder 300cc Beasts Are Incoming highlights

Rejoice! Yamaha has finally heard our cries and is (almost) ready to launch the R3 and MT-03 in India. The lovely 300cc bikes were showcased at a dealer event, and while it would be a comeback for the R3, the MT-03 will be heading to India for the very first time. 

Now if we talk about what excites us most about these bikes is their smooth 321cc twin-cylinder engine that makes 42PS, and is also quite high revving. On the naked, however, it produces 29.6Nm which is 0.1Nm more than the R3.

What’s unique about this motor is that it makes for a perfect all-rounder. Planning to take it on a city ride for daily commutes? It is tractable enough to not be daunting in the traffic and slow speeds. Looking for a thrilling track weekend? Take the R3 or MT-03 without giving it a thought.

In terms of underpinnings, the R3 and MT-03 both feature USD fork and linked monoshock suspension setup. For braking, both get a 298mm disc up front and a 202mm unit at the rear.

With the advent of the Yamaha 300’s in India, the 300cc to 400cc motorcycle segment will offer more options to buyers. Up until now, this segment boasted the KTM 390 Duke, RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 400. 

Now the price! It shouldn’t be too expensive right? Well, we believe the R3 will flaunt a price tag of Rs 4 lakh, which makes it much more affordable than the Ninja 400’s Rs 5.19 lakh (ex-showroom India) price tag. The MT-03, on the other hand, could be offered at Rs 3.8 lakh, which is almost Rs 80,000 more than what the KTM 390 Duke costs in India. Both bikes are expected to debut in India by June-July 2023.

Yamaha has played on the offence for April and has surprised us with everything in their arsenal on the same day. It has something for everyone, including the updated R15 V4 and MT-15 V2, along with the BIG and gorgeous R7, MT-07 and MT-09. Stay tuned for more updates.
